It’s a curious, adventurous and magical in Wonderland: Alice with a Why is a nostalgic mystical and heartfelt return to Wonderland

It’s time for a new generation to discover the power of Wonderland. Alice with a Why sees Alice’s granddaughter Alyce take an invitation meant for her granddaughter that sees her magically transported to Wonderland. She meets old friends of Alice’s including the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat and makes new friends like a Sailor Fox as she must belongings a feud between the Sun Queen and the King of the Moon. Alyce will learn more about her self and that sometimes you can use your heart and your head, logical and imagination are both important. Just like her grandmother, Alyce will have an adventure in Wonderland that will change her forever!

Alice with a Why is poetically, comically and cleverly written stories because it honours the nostalgia, lore and love for the classic Alice in Wonderland whilst continuing the story, so we can see Alice grow up and how Wonderland carried on after Alice and her world changing adventure. I really enjoyed getting to know Alice’s granddaughter Alyce. She is intelligent and resourceful whilst also being initially seen as more logical and slightly resultant than Alice when it comes to the curious riddle-some and optimistic nature of magic and the layout and life of Wonderland.

The amazing author Anna takes us on a interestingly thoughtful, whimsical and heartfelt adventure as we’re introduced to new characters in Wonderland, and see Aylce believe more in herself, and learn to accept and enjoy Wonderland and grow as a person as she must step up as her grandmother once did to save her new friends.

There are so many memorable moments in this story including sacrifice of the Sailor Fox tugged at my heartstrings. The reunion tea with the Mad Hatter and both Alice and Alyce made me smile, and I loved seeing Alyce help successfully get the Moon King and Sun Queen settle their rivalry on who controls the night and day. You’ll definitely laugh, cry and grin like the Cheshire Cat whilst reading this book! I also really loved seeing all our beloved favourite inhabitants of Wonderland make an appearance during the book as they meet the granddaughter of their old friend Alice!

If you’re looking to read about Alice’s life after Wonderland and see her namesake granddaughter Alyce have her own adventure in Wonderland, filled with riddles, magical adventures, friendship and heartfelt lessons, then you’ll love Anna James. The fairytale of Alice is alive and well in James’ hands!
