Review: Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood

For Sarah J Maas’s first adult series ‘Cresent City’, readers are taken into a modern world, where humans and supernatural creatures coexist. This book exceeded all my expectations, the murder mystery theme mixed with fantasy and supernatural elements had me glued to every page. You never know what Sarah J Maas has planned in The House of Earth and Blood till the very end of the book, which makes it even more enjoyable to read.

The story begins with Half Fae, Half Human Bryce Quinlan, who works hard by day at an antiques gallery, while savouring the pleasures of Cresent City’s night life, with her best friend and Alpha Wolf of the Pack of Devils Danika. Bryce’s world is shattered, when she finds her best friend and the rest of the Devil pack brutally murdered in her apartment.

Two years later, Bryce attempts to forget the trauma she feels from the murder, and closes in on her self. This proves impossible when the killer returns and the murders start up again, it appears Danikas killer is still out there. Bryce is forced to solve the case alongisde Fallen Angel Hunt Athalar, who is assigned to help Bryce, when his archangel enslaver offers him a deal, help Bryce and gain his freedom. While Bryce’s Fae half brother Prince Ruhn attempts to reconnect with her, warning her of danger she’s out herself in by agreeing to solve the murders.

As Bryce and Hunt close in on the real killer, they must confront the darkness hidden in their pasts and their feelings for each other, as they uncover a plot that theaterns to destroy Cresent City, and force Bryce to comfort what she hoped would never come to light.

The House of Earth and Blood is the book that keeps on surprising you, with astounding twists and revelations around every corner. You’ll laugh at the snarky dark humour of Cresent City’s residents nd be moved by the emotional impact and depth of Bryce’s relationships with others.
